The incumbent Garissa governor Ali Korane inherited a debt amounting to Sh.4.3 billion from his predecessor Nathif Jama of Wiper Democratic Movement. According to a local daily, the said amount was expected to be paid to service providers and contractors.The revenue has a debt of Sh.3.5 million while Roads and public works have Sh1.3 billion debt, which is considered one of the highest. The debt is said to be distributed to all the departments of the county government. The trade department has a debt of Sh141.4 million, Public Service owes debtors Sh17.1 million while Health has Sh78.3 million. The other debts with relatively huge debts are Youth and Sports Sh60.1 million, Environment Sh352.7 million, Lands Sh198.5 million, Finance Sh973.7 million, Education Sh224 million and Water Sh773.9 million.In a report presented to the governor two weeks ago, the county affairs department has an accrued debt of Sh 100.5 million, Culture Sh10.8 million, Livestock has Sh67.1 million while the Agriculture Sh29.1 million.The new development comes at a time when the county boss has embarked on initiating different projects in the county.
