Garissa Governor Ali Korane has launched a scathing attack on his predecessor Nathif Jama of presiding over corruption. According to The Star Korane, who was speaking yesterday, said that Jama did little to transform the lives of the people of this part of the nation, adding that his government was corrupt.

The lawmaker also said that his government has an uphill task ahead of it since the past regime was not committed towards development related matters.

“I am inheriting a government that not only failed to implement development programmes, but also allowed rampant corruption and a bloated workforce,” he said, as quoted by the Local Daily.

The county boss also said that there was need to have proper and simple government structures to ensure smooth running service delivery in the next five years of this leadership.

He also lamented that the current wage bill of Sh.5.4 million of the county government is unsustainable if development matters are taken into consideration. The lawmaker has, however, pledged to do his best to transform the region during his reign.

Jama has since gone to court seeking for the nullification of the election outcome. The former county boss argues that the elections were marred by illegalities and irregularities that saw him lose to Jubilee candidate Korane.
