The newly elected county boss urged the residents to remain calm as police officers probe the matter in question.

The stalls were razed moments after Korane was declared the winner of the governorship race.  Korane garnered 55,968 votes against Governor Nathif Jama’s 50,471 votes.

Speaking when he toured the market on Friday, Korane criticized the incident, terming it barbaric.

“An hour after the election was announced, the market was set on fire. The police should ensure that all those who incited the public are brought to book,” Korane told Journalists, as quoted by Star.

The lawmaker also dismissed claims that the fire had been clan instigated, adding that he is committed to ensure that justice is realized for those affected following the incident.

“A clan doesn’t plan crimes. A crime is committed by an individual, his masters and their accomplices,” Korane said.

On his part, Senator Yussuf Haji called upon the residents to preach peace during this period of electioneering.

“Garissa is bigger any individual or community. It belongs to all of us. As elected leaders we want to ensure all that no want will be left out in the all inclusive administration,” Haji said.
