The county government of Garissa has revealed its plans to conduct a fresh audit on the Shs4.3 billion debts inherited from the former county boss. According to a local daily, need to be audited before the county embarks on resettling them before the end of the five-year term.
Speaking at his office, the county boss Ali Korane said that his government will audit the debts before deciding his next move.
“The only way to dispose of this matter is to carry out a fresh audit, which I believe will give a clear picture of this debt,” Korane said, as quoted The Star.
He also said that he has seen the report, adding that the county government does not have enough funds to settle the debts as required.
“I have seen the report. We don’t have much money and I don’t see us paying this amount in the near future,” he added. He further declined to comment on the projects across the county.
Department of public service had a debt of Sh17.1 million, Health at Sh78.3 million. Youth and Sports (Sh60.1 million), trade is Sh141.4 million and Environment (Sh352.7million). Other departments are Finance (Sh973.7 million), Lands Sh198.5 million), education (Sh224million) and Water (Sh773.9 million).0
