The county government of Garissa has unveiled plans to set up a security directorate in a bid to end cross border conflicts.
The security directorate is expected to work together with the national government to control the situation in the region.
According to a local daily, residents of this county have been lamenting over the endless conflicts at the borders.
Speaking to the press at a Garissa hotel Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane said that the directorate will be tasked with addressing inter-boundary conflicts, peace building and reconciliation of the warring communities in this region.
He also said that the directorate is expected to engage the elders from the different communities that have been fighting over the border.
“We know security is not a devolved function. What we are trying to do is to complement the national government to improve security,” Dagane said, as quoted by The Star.
The Deputy made the remarks at the peace meeting attended by representatives from Dadaab, Fafi, Hulugho and Ijara sub-counties
He also said that the county government is committed to ensure that the residents live together peacefully.
He further said that the national government is ready to back Governor Korane Ali in dealing with the border related conflicts as he seeks to transform the county following his election.
