A ward representative has urged Garissa Governor Ali Korane to appoint qualified chief officers who will solve issues which have affected the county for too long.

Galbet MCA Abdirizack Ismail said the Garissa residents have suffered for far too long because Health and Water departments have not been well managed.

Mr Ismail who was speaking during a press conference in Garissa said only professionals can tackle underlying issues in the crucial Health and Water dockets.

The MCA said the appointment of inexperienced people is due to jobs which are being shared according to clan lineage and political loyalty in counties in North Eastern.

The MCA said while the governor considers appointments based on clan interests, he should ensure experienced people are given the key jobs.

“Only appointing professionals with experience in the two departments will solve underlying issues which have been ignored for too long.”

“There is a water problem. Korane should give crucial departments to professionals who will solve underlying issues,” he said.

Governor Korane had issued a 30-day ultimatum to the water company to provide water to the residents saying many residents in the county are suffering because they don’t have access to safe drinking water.

The Governor further said that his administration has made a positive engagement with the ministry of water at the national government and other development partners to finding a lasting solution to the water crisis in the county.
