Garissa governor Ali Korane has said that his government is committed to ensuring that severe hunger is a thing of the past in this part of the nation.
In an opinion piece, Korane said that drought has made life unbearable for local residents of this region.
He noted that water points in different parts of the region have dried making life even harder for the residents, who known to be pastoralists.
He further said that children from Garissa and other counties affected by drought have been compelled to drop out of school because of lack of food and not school fees like other parts.
The first time governor also said he has embarked on distributing water to the bowsers and rehabilitating different water points for the sake of the future of the residents.
He also noted that they are working on the water supply and collapsing tanks as the fight to restore the lost glory of this region continues.
“That is why in Garissa we are undertaking contingency plans, including distributing water through bowsers to all settlements. We are also rehabilitating water supply points and distributing collapsible tanks,” he opines.
He also said that his government plans to work with different stakeholders to solve the problem once and for all.My government is seeking enhanced partnership with stakeholders in establishing coping mechanisms.
