The arrest of former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has continued to attract mixed reactions from different factions. Kenyans on Twitter (KOT ) have also joined the debate on whether it was right to arrest the politician over what police termed as hate speech.
The senator was arrested alongside Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria. On his part, NASA Presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga has blamed President Uhuru Kenyatta for Muthama’s arrest.
“Uhuru Kenyatta has given instructions. But I would like Uhuru Kenyatta to play by the rules. You are a presidential candidate, I’m a presidential candidate, let us face the people. Do not intimidate my supporters to cripple my campaign,” Raila said, as quoted by the Standard.
A section of Kenyans on social media felt that Muthama has no charges to respond to. Here some of the tweets we sampled

Am I the only one unaware why first Machakos Senator Muthama is under arrest, ama ni ile inclusivity principle to keep Moses Kuria company?
@dsmasinde
Police in Kenya can arrest you, trump up a charge and make you to pay cash bail of 300k, all not in the interest of Justice?
