Kenyans on Twitter have expressed mixed reactions following a case linking Neno Evangelist James Maina Ng'ang'a with causing an accident and killing one was thrown out.
Pastor James Ng'ang'a was cleared of the charge of causing death by dangerous driving. Limuru law court acquitted him on Friday alongside driver Simon Kuria and police officers Christopher Nzioka and Patrick Baya. Chief Magistrate Godfrey Oduor ruled that prosecution did not produce enough evidence for their conviction. It was alleged that the pastor drove Range Rover carelessly on August 26, 2015, resulting in the death of a Mercy Njeri.
Kenyans have taken on social to express their dissatisfaction with the current judicial system over what they term as massive failure despite evidence. In a trending hashtag #JusticeforMercyNjeri, they have condemned how Ng'ang'a case was handled.A section of Kenyans have argued that there have been no good will in cases involving prominent people as compared to the poor in the society. Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans.
@polycarppolycarpHingaThere were eyewitnesses lined from Kinale all the way to Limuru saying the vehicle was being erratically driven and overtaking dangerously but the Judge said the evidence was not enough.
@washIz Essentially, the court said it is okay for rich, drunk, Range Rover driving pastors to kill poor people. How the fuck does the court decide that there is not enough evidence when there is a lady lying six feet under? What is wrong with out courts?
@theeMwai This tendency by courts of jailing chicken thieves and letting corrupt, rich killers have their way MUST stop. Justice is not for the highest bidder in corridors of justice .
@kipezeer He asked: “Does acquitting all the accused persons mean my children faked the accident in which my daughter-in-law died?"
@ Ndoria kena I pity the whole congregation who sit down and listen to this man as he ministers.😢😢😢
@vinny_wa _We live in a country where you can KILL and people witness but you will be set free in the name of insufficient evidence. Pastor James Maina Ng'ang'a is a very good example
@Annoldwards I think we need a new justice system. The current one is not working. We try Arrow maybe? Many people are failing this city.
@ngure_ngugi judiciary led by religious man frees another rich drunk religious man but GODS JUDGEMENT awaits..@dkmaraga
@dantorich If @dkmaraga want to save his face, he should just resign,These Judges and magistrates are vomiting on the shoes of Kenyan tax payers. Enough is enough
@RoadAlerts The statement "lack of enough evidence" has been deliberately used for a long time in the corridors of justice to acquit rich law breakers and deny the have nots justice. This has to stop.
@Josh It is sad that in Kenya The rich and influential Harm, Steal and Kill but will always Win it in the courts. What They don't know is that God's sword is double-edged.
