Through a facebook post on Friday, KP said the 5.45am blackout was caused by technical problems on the substation.

Kenya Power Mombasa business manager Ken Owino confirmed that the problem arose from the Kiambere line but was later restored.

“The line tripped and that is a normal occurrence on our systems. Our system control engineers noted a problem on our Kiembere line and they have restored it,” Owino is quoted by Nation.

The outage lasted for about an hour and it affected Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Tana River and Taita-Taveta counties.
