A number of lobby groups have decried massive cases of nepotism and tribalism in the recruitment at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC).
According to The Star, the human rights groups have lamented that the management teams of these two parastatals lack goodwill for the local residents. The groups have now filed a case seeking to stop recruitment in the two authorities and threatened to take to the streets today (Friday) in protest of being sidelined when it comes to job opportunities.
KPA and KPC officials are also likely to be subjected to investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). This is after Haki Africa programs coordinator Francis Auma said that he will write a letter to the authority regarding the situation on the ground.
Auma argued that massive cases of forgeries have made the recruitment flawed. He further said that he has information on rampant cases of corruption at KPC, adding that he will share put the same with the relevant authorities for an action to be taken.
A number of politicians including MPs Abdulawamad Nassir (Mvita) and Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe) have assured the residents of their support as they seek for justice. This is after there were allegations that some of the employees have recruited a number of their relatives, thereby denying other residents a chance to work at the port.
