Kenya Premier League (KPL) debutants Vihiga United registered their first win in the league this season, after beating Ulinzi Stars 1-0 in a league match played at the Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium, on Wednesday afternoon.
The teams went for half-time break locked at 0-0 before Christopher Masinza scored the all-important goal for Vihiga United in the 86th minute.
It is the first win of the campaign for the Vihiga County sponsored side. The Edward Manoah led side had previously lost four and drawn four matches before the Ulinzi Stars game.
“Ulinzi Stars FC 0-1 Vihiga United FC. Our maiden win of KPL 2018,” the team posted on Facebook after the game.
Vihiga United was promoted to KPL at the end of last year, after winning the second tier National Super League (NSL). The team was promoted alongside Frank Ouna coached Wazito FC.
Elsewhere, 2008 KPL champions Mathare United rose to the summit of the KPL log after beating Nakumatt FC 3-2 at the Ruaraka stadium.
The slum boys now have 20 points from nine matches, one point ahead of defending Champions Gor Mahia. Gor Mahia has two games in hand.
Rangers FC defeated Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0, while Chemelil Sugar drew 0-0 with Thika United.
