With the glare of relegation in sight, threatened teams in the Kenya Premier League have resorted to mind games to take advantage of their opponents.

Even after beating Sony Sugar 1-0 to uncage themselves from the relegation bracket, Thika United coach Nicholas Muyoti has said he is not a satisfied man and want more from the boys.

“It was a good result for us but our performance has still got room for improvement. We need to kill off games when we have the opportunity,” he said.

With only three matches left with two coming away in Nairobi and Kericho, Thika only hope to keep solid their upward trajectory to avoid the chop.

They have claimed 32 points this season.

On the other hand, Western Stima's Ugandan coach Richard Makumbi is equally mournful mood and seems disturbed after the team slipped in their tie against Gor Mahia on Wednesday.

They lost 2-1.

But Stima hope to get at least a point each from their games against Posta Rangers and Ulinzi Stars since both clashes will be set at home.

“To win games you have to score goals. Goals are what we need to be getting now if we are to achieve our target of remaining in the league,” remarked Makumbi.

Another relegation-threatened side is Mathare United.

Head coach Francis Kimanzi has however insisted that his boys are way above the dogfight they currently languish in.

His hopes of avoiding relegation were deflated on Wednesday after they settled for a goalless draw against Sofapaka in Narok.

They next face Nzoia, Sony and relegation candidates Muhoroni Youth.

But the Muhoroni man George Maina has had little to say and awaits fate to be kind to him when they meet Kariobangi Sharks, Mathare United and AFC Leopards in their remaining matches.
