Federation Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) Chairperson Nick Mwendwa has confirmed that this year's Kenya Premier League (KPL) will be composed of sixteen teams.
The Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) on Friday 10 issued a verdict on the rift KPL Ltd was advocating for 16 teams while their counterparts FKF were seeking for 18 team league.
The SDT has now ruled that the 2017 KPL season will commence on 25 February without Sofapaka and Muhoroni, teams which were relegated last year.
The newly promoted Nakumatt FC, Nzoia united, Zoo Kericho and Kariobangi Sharks will be part of the league according to the ruling.
The verdict was lauded by Mwendwa who said that it has provided a solution which will end wrangles between the two conflicting sides.
"We are happy as FKF because no more wrangles will be witnessed and the league will officially begin," said Mwendwa.
