In a statement released on Monday, the parastatal body said it had received pledges from of about Sh300 billion from domestic and foreign development partners for the expansion of the off-grid electricity systems in all far-flung areas.

The electricity provider agency, which the state owns 51 percent in shares, said the plan was in line with the Jubilee's target of universal electric power connection by the end of 2020.

Through its general manager for strategic business operations Peter Mungai, the power distributor agency further added that its major plan is to connect all households stationed miles away from the national power grid to solar, thermal or hybrid and wind power systems.

“World Bank and the French Development Agency have pledged Sh15.25 billion each. We are now at a stage of putting the facts together and from January 2017, the plan will be rolling on,” Mungai said.

However, the company has reduced its capital expenditures for the current financial year by 16.67 percent to 42 billion shillings from Sh50.4 billion for maintenance and upgrade works.
