The Kenya Revenue Authority has destroyed goods worth one million shillings.

The goods were confiscated at the Eldoret International Airport since last year.

The goods were disposed of on Tuesday in an incinerator at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

According to Florence Otory, KRA deputy commissioner and North Rift region coordinator, the seized goods included imported fake seeds, tobacco and pornographic materials.

“We don’t accept imported seeds without the approval of the Kephis, to protect our eco-system. Imports of fake seeds led to the hyacinth menace and we will not allow that to happen,” Mrs Otory said.

She said a scanner had been installed at the airport to curb such instances.

“The goods had been condemned for non-compliance [with] various guiding laws, such as the East Africa Community Customs and Customs Management Act 2004, routine orders, gazette notices as well as other laws,” she said.
