According to the Thika KRA Customer Relations officer Fredrick Kiema, the validators will be given to distributors, wholesalers, retailers and bar owners to ensure only genuine products are sold to consumers.

The gadget was launched in November last year and it will ensure quality of products circulating in the market.

Kiema says that KRA is giving out the device free of charge to ensure every businessperson gets one easily.

He decried the thriving of the black market where counterfeit products like bread, sugar, alcohol and soft drinks are edging out producers.

Kiema added that their motive is to ensure they curb counterfeit products and deaths that have been experienced in some parts of the sub-county due to consumption of illicit drinks.

He insisted that any product that is not taxed has not been cleared by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) making it unsafe for human consumption. He said that such products should be avoided to ensure the safety of the public.

Kiema said they will be moving around sensitising the public about the gadget that is expected to curb the flooding of fake products from the markets.

He was speaking from his office on Tuesday.
