Vehicle owners will now be required to present their respective units together with their original ownership, transfer and importation documents to the commissioner of investigations and enforcement at the Nairobi Railways Club for verification, according to Nation Fm news on Tuesday.

The latest development comes in the backdrop of Monday crackdown on luxury cars when the authority impounded several high-end vehicles in Nairobi’s car bazaars found to be importing and selling vehicles without paying duty.

According to Business Daily news, the action unearthed more vehicles with tax related issues or without the requisite importation documents. In fact, KRA officials seized at least four vehicles, among them an armoured Toyota Land Cruiser VX on Valley Road.

Proprietor, Francis Mundia explained to the KRA officials that they were in the process of paying the sh872, 701 duties, only for KRA officials to get hold of it on the grounds it had already been placed on sale.

The authority which is reeling from a sh69.1 billion deficit in revenue collection hopes to unearth income sources that have not been declared in tax returns.
