Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials on Tuesday impounded cartons full of counterfeit condoms. The officials said the condoms were impounded at the border town of Busia and were being transported to Kisumu Town.Busia is a porous border post and more often unverified products from Uganda find their way to the Kenyan market through the spot despite heavy security presence from both Uganda and Kenya.Kevin Safari, the KRA deputy commissioner who is also the Western Region Coordinator said other items confiscated included bhang which had been staffed in a Probox car.He, however, did not give the value for the condoms which were packed in 15 cartons. This happened hours after Customs officials in Busia destroyed counterfeit goods destined for the Kenyan market mainly Kisumu and Nairobi.“The goods did not comply with various laws and rules,” said Safari.“We have disposed of consignments valued at approximately Sh13.5 million through destruction. The contraband goods were meant to enter the country but upon declaration, they failed to pass the quality test," he said as quoted by the Nation.
