According to reports, City Hall intends to place a case for the contempt of court following permission from Justice George Odunga.

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) boss John Njiraini is currently being sought over Sh1 billion by City Hall. Njiraini is accused of not complying with a tax injunction which stopped KRA from reclaiming Sh4.7 billion.

City Hall was supposed to receive the Sh1 billion from the Central Bank of Kenya, however the money was seized KRA.

KRA defended themselves by arguing that the money was not part of the original Sh4.7 billion and that they were not given notice of the court orders.

However, Justice Odunga, stated that KRA was aware of the orders and cited the taxmans application to have the order overruled was proof.

“In this case it is clear that the KRA was aware of the orders of this court otherwise it would not have made attempts to have them set aside,” Justice Odunga said as reported by the Daily Nation.

KRA is asking Sh5.7 billion from City Hall but Justice Odunga has ordered them to return the Sh1 billion before they can proceed with the case.
