The Kenya Revenue Authority is planning to assist county governments to effectively collect taxes by integrating revenue collections systems with iTax.
According to Commission of Revenue Allocation chairman Mich Cheserem, property rates remain the greatest challenges in county revenue collection.
"KRA has been talking about transforming into the Kenya Revenue service. Part of this transformation should be a collaboration with county governments. KRA mandate is not only to serve the national government but also enable counties meet their own revenue targets," said Cheserem.
Chesrem further noted that it was sad for counties to issue biannual amnesties to property owners as a way of encouraging them to comply with the law.
Cheserem was speaking during the second annual tax summit.
