The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has kicked off a 10-day training of taxpayers from western Kenya on its new tax collection system.
KRA will train taxpayers on data collection and how to upload certificates on the new tax collection system referred to as iTax. The system aims at making the tax collection process fully-automated. The training will involve taxpayers from 10 counties is being held in Kisumu.
Attendants will be trained on how to update an iPage, the filing of Pay as You Earn (PAYE), Value Added Tax (VAT) and income returns.
Philip Otiende, one of the attendants, said that KRA should use the opportunity to collect more revenue that was not available in the older regime.
“From the look of things, KRA has set itself for bigger revenue because the system appears to seal all loopholes. We will embrace the new technology,” he said.
Ivy Atieno asked KRA to seal loopholes to ensure that the computer system is not open to abuse. “They should seal all loopholes to seal all possible abuse to this system so that we collect the money that we are supposed to,” she said.
The new system enables KRA to monitor how tax payers and companies file their tax returns in real time. It will also enable the county’s revenue collection body to avoid all cash transactions.
