The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has unveiled a web based integrated system to curb tax evasion, cargo diversion and loss. The new systems will be used in monitoring transit cargo destined to different neighbouring countries including Uganda and Rwanda. Addressing journalists in Mombasa, Chief Manager Customs and border control department, southern region at the KRA, Mr John Bisonga said that cases of tax evasion, diversion or loss of cargo from the port of Mombasa will be a thing of the past following the development of the new system.“We took a deliberate step to ensure that we track these transit goods through our territory to the foreign partner states. Since we came up with this track technology it gives us confidence that the assigned consignment will reach the intended clients,” he said, as quoted by Baraka FM.Bisonga also expressed confidence that other countries belonging to the Eastern African Community including South Sudan, Tanzania and Burundi will take the same route to ensure that safe transportation of cargo in the region.“We do hope that with time, the other partners of Tanzania, Burundi and South Sudan will also join in, “ he added, as quoted by the daily.
