Karitu said the corporation has done nothing as per the plan despite the fact it had long been awarded Sh8.9 million by the National Land Commission on behalf of the institution as compensation to its land which was acquired for construction of Standard Gauge Railway in Athi River town.

Addressing the press in his office on Tuesday, Karitu said the institute, KRC and NLC agreed on the action plan in April 2015 but the corporation has failed to implement it.

He said the institution surrendered 2.6 acres of its land to National Land Commission to pave way for the SGR project.

“Owing to the fact that KRC had been issued the money to compensate the institute, we need the reallocation action plan implemented because they were paid for that purpose,” said Karitu.

Karitu said according to the agreement, the corporation was to effect compensation on affected MTI’s staff houses, construct a masonry wall around the institute, two water harvesting tanks and four classrooms.

“Kenya Railways Corporation has done nothing with the money,” said Karitu.

He said as an institution, they were worried they might be ignored by KRC as far as the compensation is concerned since SGR project is almost complete on the surrendered institute’s land.

“How can they be given the money and they do not compensate us, what have they done with it?” questioned Karitu.

Karitu said he in September 2015 did a letter to the KRC’s managing director requesting the corporation to implement the reallocation plan in vain.

He said the managing director did not respond to the letter.

Karitu said Kenya Railways Corporation has remained silent though the project’s contractor China Road and Bridge Corporation was already laying railway on the land, an indication that the work was complete in the area.
