Uganda police spokesman AIGP Felix Kaweesi has assured that KTN journalist Joy Doreen Biira is safe and will likely be granted bail.
The KTN Business news anchor was on Sunday evening arrested, for allegedly sharing live pictures of clashes in a Kingdom in Uganda.
It is believed she was arrested alongside the King of Rwenzururu in Western Uganda, over the clashes that reportedly left 55 people dead.
"Joy Biira is safe and I have talked to commanders that if there are charges, let her be granted police bond," the police spokesman told NBS television, Monday morning.
A crusading Ugandan human rights attorney Nicholas Opiyo said police in Kasese town had denied Biira's family access to her, and were demanding that her dad goes to the police.
"On my way back to Kasese this morning to ensure Joy, Newton and two of her friends are released. I was with Joy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Kasese. She was traumatized by what she saw. Now she has been needlessly arrested. Police in Kasese at this moment interrogating Joy on allegations that she took and shared pictures of events in Kasese,'' Opiyo said, Monday morning.
Biira alongside her fiancé are said to have been picked from her home in Kasese by uniformed men, a day after their private wedding.
#FreeJoyDoreen trended Monday morning on Twitter, with Kenyans on social media calling for her immediate release.
