The items, which comprised of  rice, beans, cooking oil, milk and wheat flour, was donated by students, staff and alumni  were presented to the residents of this part of the nation on Friday as the county and national government seek to address the ongoing drought. 

Speaking during the distribution, acting vice chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina said that university’s move to donate the food was part  of an outreach and service programme aimed at assisting  the communities affected by natural disasters as we head to the polls, adding that the decision was a response to calls by government and other organizations.

“The university decided to join hands and respond to the call by the national government to assist drought victims,” he said.

The ongoing drought has made life unbearable for most of the residents of this region.

The donation of food comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta declared drought a national disaster early this year and asked Kenyans to join hands in the fight against the disaster.
