First years joining Kenyatta University have been given free tablets by the administration in a move aimed at enabling the freshmen have easy access to education by embracing technology.
While addressing the first year students, Vice Chancellor Olive Mugenda said the use of tablets by the students was a way of increasing the level of information access in the absence of a tutor.
She said that the initiative was going to create diversified e-resources that will encourage real-time communication between the students as well as providing a platform for collaborative learning.
“The institution has taken upon itself to find ways and means in which to make education more interactive by use of multimedia,” Prof Mugenda said.
The KU director of e-learning, David Nzuki, encouraged the use of trending technology to provide channels for accessing high quality education.
Nzuki noted that the portability of the devices would provide collaborative education between the students and their lecturers and help streamline communication among themselves.
