An internal memo signed by Vice Chancellor Paul Wainaina stated that lectures for the second semester of 2017/2018 academic year will resume immediately, adding that students should report to the varsity’s various campuses as instructed.

Wainaina noted the management had made the necessary arrangements to ensure the continuation of learning and teaching.

“Please note that the university’s academic activities will henceforth, be undertaken and completed as planned,” he said.

The move comes following the order by the Industrial and Labour Relations Court that declared the job boycott by lecturers unlawful and unprotected and ordered them to return to work.

“Specifically, members of the academic staff have individually signed a commitment to undertake their teaching duties,” said Wainaina, adding that the reopening of the institution had been ordered by it’s Senate.

KU becomes the third varsity to recall students after the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) and Moi University.

Learning was paralysed in 31 public universities across the country since March 1 after lectures downed tools to demand pay increment.

The continued strike has seen students take longer than they should to complete their courses.
