Kenyatta University acting vice-chancellor Paul Wainaina has confirmed that the institution will sponsor the world under 18 athletics championships at a tune of Sh 400 million.
The fete will be held in Nairobi from the 12th to the 16th of July 2017 at Kasarani.
He said the sponsorship is part of their contribution towards the construction of the athletics village and warm-up track at the institution.
Wainaina added that renovations to upgrade the hostels to a three-star hotel status and construction of the running track will be complete by the end of April, ready for a test run.
“We feel privileged to host such an event, this is a national issue and we need to get involved in a big way. The renovations at Kenyatta University that has been earmarked by IAAF for a High Performance Training Centre and it will cost Sh 1.1 billion,” said Wainaina
He said that while the institution is donating Sh 400 million the government will be donating Sh 700 million to sum up the Sh 1.1 billion needed.
