A fifth-year medical student at Kenyatta University (KU) committed suicide under unclear circumstances.
A somber mood engulfed the institution after the Student leader, Were, took to social media to announce the sudden demise of Stella Karanja who was on the verge of completing her course. Police in collaboration with the university staff are probing the incident.
"It's saddening and chilling that one of our comrades, Stella Karanja a 5th-year medical student was found dead after she took her own life within the Kenyatta University compound (SQ) yesterday evening, Thursday, September 14, “ wrote the Student leader.
One of the things that left students and the entire nation talking is the fact that she left behind a final note detailing how she wants her burial conducted. According to Were, the Student asked specific persons to carry her remains to her final resting place and her ex-boyfriend was among those she listed.
The deceased boyfriend’s name, however, has not been disclosed as investigations continue at the institution.
Were regretted that the student could have opened up to share her troubles with her friends. None of her friends seemingly knows exactly why she took her life but it is clear she was troubled.
