Kenyatta University KU is set to host this year’s Kenya University Sports Association league (KUSA) at the university’s sports grounds in their main campus along Thika Road.

The first round matches are set to kick off on September 20 – 21. The games will include football, volleyball, softball, handball and hockey for both male and female students. More than 20 universities in the country are set to compete in the annual event that runs from September to February. The games will climax with the play offs for the top four teams that will take place in March.

KU are the defending champions in volleyball, netball, football and hockey women and also athletics.

The Sports Coaches Academy has also been launched to develop the sports coaching profession.

Sports PS Richard Ekai who launched the academy challenged sports federations and organisations to seize the opportunity provided by the new academy in seeking sports excellence.

“I pledge government support to this initiative and call upon corporate organisations and stakeholders to come out and support it," stated Ekai who was representing the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and the Arts, Dr Hassan Wario.

The academy offers professional training for sports coaches in all disciplines targeting colleges, universities, sports clubs, sport federations, and the disciplined forces among others.

Ku are ranked fifth out of 21 teams in swimming and three students were selected to represent a university select team in the Rugby Safaricom sevens.
