Zablon Awange, the Kisumu County KUPPET Secretary General noted that the deadline that elapsed on Friday March 30 was not sufficient for some schools owing to financial constraints.

"There are schools that struggle financially and given the short deadline, they may not be able to implement the directive," Awange said on Tuesday.

He noted that the deadline should be extended to at least April 30 to allow schools which are financially constrained to mobilize money to implement the directive.

In January, the Education ministry through then Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i ordered all schools to paint their buses yellow following a series of accidents especially during the 2017 December season.

Matiang'i explained that the directive was in line with the Traffic Amendment Act passed by Parliament in 2016 adding that all school buses should also have safety belts for all students.

"All schools, should by March 30, ensure that their buses and vans are painted yellow as required by the law," the CS was quoted by Daily Nation.
