The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has faulted the new directive by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) stopping schools’ Board of Management from hiring untrained teachers.
KUPPET chairman Ombok Milemba said TSC should strive to employ more teachers to address the shortage in the schools.
Milemba said the workforce is unbearable for the teachers and hiring more teachers by the Boards is the only surest way to alleviate the suffering.
“Our schools are running on these teachers being employed by the Boards. If TSC feels that they should not be contracted then let them recruit new teachers to take over from them,” he said.
Speaking in Kisumu to the press on Monday, Mr Milemba further asked teachers to be wary of banks where they keep their money.
He said in the wake of Chase Bank collapse, teachers must be keen when opening new banks accounts.
“Teachers are hard working and the government is paying us very little, we would not like that little money sunk down with these small banks,” he said.
Milemba told teachers to be strong in the Cooperative movements as a way of safeguarding their money.
The union boss says many banks are now coming up in the country and warned teachers not to blindly be lured into opening accounts.
