The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) says the new body should be formed to help KNEC in administering examinations while also ensuring exam credibility during the national examinations period.

Speaking in Kisumu, KUPPET chairman Zablon Awange has faulted KNEC on the recent development of digitised examination cheating cases which has rocked some parts of the country.

''Technology has now led to rampant cheating cases in which exam materials are sent via WhatsApp and short message services (sms),'' said Awange.

He added that cheating cases via technology was a factor that has now overwhelmed KNEC officials.

Awange also warned the KNEC officials over canceling national exams affecting the innocent candidates while the main perpetrators involved in cheating cases go unpunished.

The KUPPET chairman also cited cheating cases in Nyakach sub county and called on the government to protect the whistle blowers who are being intimidated or harassed by high school principals in the affected schools.

He however urged them to allocate hardship allowance to compensate teachers working in endangered areas and those affected in the line of duty during exam administration.

Last week, a teacher from Migori County while invigilating the examinations, was among the people who succumbed to death in Kapedo area in Pokot County after an attack by bandits.
