Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers(KUPPET) Uasin Gishu County Secretary general Elijah Maiyo has faulted the criteria used by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in promotions and allowances.

He said the criteria is unfair and discriminatory."It is sad that teachers in urban areas such Nairobi their allowances range from Sh6,173 to Sh46,000 while those in former municipalities such as Eldoret earn sh 4005 to Sh28,400," he said in Eldoret town," Thursday."On promotions, the criteria does not embrace higher qualifications teachers is unfair. We want teachers promoted based on their level of education," he added. He, however, urged Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to hire more teachers since the current number is a drop in the ocean."TSC  should at least be employing 20,000 teachers annually for students to get quality and not quantity education," noted Maiyo.He challenged parents to ensure they take good care of their students, especially during this long holidays by ensuring they know their whereabouts.
