Last week, Duale who is also the Member of Parliament for Dujis, Garissa County, was quoted stating the education sector in the county should be devolved to tame teachers’ strikes, like the one going on now.

Chairman of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisumu County Branch, Zablon Awange, has slammed Duale saying his proposal has everything to do with the government’s plan to frustrate teachers.

Speaking to the press in his office on Monday, Awange said lack of coordination will cause a drop in education standards in the country when the sector is devolved.

He said devolving the sector, is a kin to inviting chaos being witnessed in the health sector that was devolved a while ago.

“We are saying that before we even think of devolution, we will remove our teachers from places like Garissa, Wajir and Mandera where there’s insecurity,” he said.

Awange also urged the government to dialogue with the striking teachers, to find a solution so that the strike can be called off.

The strike which is now in its second week continues to hamper learning activities in public schools across the country.
