The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has challenged the government to allocate funds that will facilitate developing sports and other co-curriculum facilities in public secondary schools.
Kuppet national Secretary General Akello Misori says some of the facilities are in dilapidated condition and not able to effectively nurture student's talents.
“In the Education Curriculum reforms we urge the Ministry of education to put a lot of attention to the development of facilities because facilities in our schools are not sufficient enough to develop talents which are relevant in the 21st century,” said Misori after officially launching the Rift Valley regional secondary school games at Hill school in Eldoret, Tuesday.
“Sports helps in promoting peace despite being entertainment and the government should take a keen interest in sports since it helps to develop and nature young talents, talents can only be nurtured if there are enough facilities,” he added.
Misori also urged the government to at least develop talents school in the 8 regions in the country to be used by youths noting that after completing their O level education they lack places where their talents can be nurtured.
The regional Rift valley secondary school games which started on Tuesday will come to an end on Saturday. The games involve schools from 14 counties.
