The Ministry of Education has been asked to consider extending the dateline for the form one selections to February.

This follows what the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) Uasin Gishu branch chairman Elijah Maiyo says is a low turn out in form one admissions being witnessed in most schools in the county.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Tuesday, Maiyo noted that only half of the students have reported to schools they were selected to join.

The Kuppet official credited the low turm out to financial challenges that parents are facing.

"Most of the parents overspend during the festive season and they are now finding it hard to get the finances to facilitate their children to join form one and this is the reason behind low turnout on the form one admission," Maiyo noted

"However I believe given up to February 1, the parents will be ready to admit their children keeping in mind this is the first time form ones are joining a school in January," he added.

The ministry of education recently extended the form one admission dateline from the previous January 12 to Wednesday, January 17.
