Kisumu County Kenya Union of Post Primary Education (Kuppet) members are set to seek divine intervention at ACK church tomorrow as the teachers’ strike enters its fourth day.
Union county chairman Zablon Awange said the church service is meant to pray for the teachers to guide them during the strike and remain united.
Awange said after the church service, KUPPET members will commence a serious strike that will paralyze learning until the government gives in.
“After the church service, KUPPET members in Kisumu will commence the strike. The church service is meant to give teachers divine intervention in this war,” he said.
He said the strike will ensure education in the country is in disarray.
Speaking in Kisumu, Awange told teachers to brace for further strike since talks that were called yesterday to break the stalemate collapsed.
He said teachers will not be intimidated by the government through court injunctions or withholding of teachers’ salaries.
“The government is employing dirty tactics like threatening to sack and withhold teachers’ salaries. We are not cowards and we are ready to go full throttle with this strike lest we get the pay increase,” he said.
Awange said this time round teachers’ will not relent in their quest to have a pay increase that has been elusive since 1997.
He noted that the government has for a long time taken them for a ride and urged teachers to keep off schools and picket to push the government to act.
