The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has commenced the rehabilitation of a 5.2 kilometers road in Kisii County.

Bush clearing process and surveys started in December 2017 while the actual road rehabilitation from murram to tarmac has just kicked off.

The project is being implemented in two phases, with the first phase being a five kilometers road from Nywachwa to Eversweet Bakery while phase two has a two hundred metres bypass joining Kisii -  Keroka Highway and Kisii - Kilgoris Highway.

The project's supervisor Brian Onyango told this writer that the national government's project will be completed in two year's time.

"We surveyed the road last month and we have now started it. We believe we will complete the roads in the said time," Brian said.

However, he did not disclose the project's cost.

Residents of Nywanchwa have received the project positively and praised the national government for considering them.

"For once, the national government has considered its people. We thank KURA for rehabilitating the road," a resident said.

Kisii roads have been in a bad state, with potholes, poor drainage systems and poor markings, due to lack of maintenance.
