A family in Kuresoi has accused area chief of planning to evict them from their home.

Grace Ngeno, who is a widow, said a group of armed youths accompanied by police officers arrived at their home on Friday and arrested her son as the youths started clearing bushes in their five days acre land.

According to her, area chief David Busienei sold the land to a rich man.

"We have lived on this land since 1997. We are in fear since the stranger wants to evict us since he has the support from a local chief and police", she said.

She claimed the chief has been hiring youths to assault the poor in the community.

"The chief has been torturing us a little for years now. He sells land of the poor to the rich and later hires youths to beat the owners mercilessly," Ngeno said.

However, Busienei denied the claims saying  Ngeno is not the owner of the land despite that she has lived there for many years.

"I have not sold anybody's land and what I know the land does not belong to Ngeno's family as claimed," said Busienei.
