The bridge which connects Cheram and Kapkembu villages collapsed following the heavy downpour which has been witnessed in the region for one month now.

According to a witness, the man was trying to cross the bridge when it suddenly collapsed.

“When I saw that his life was in danger, I screamed and neighbours responded to the distress call easily and they came to rescue him within the shortest time possible,” said John Sawe.

The injured man was taken to the nearest health clinic for treatment.

Confirming the incident, David Busienei, the area senior chief urged residents to be vigilant during this rainy seasons particularly when crossing rivers.

“We have advised residents to use alternative routes to cross to the other end as we wait for the bridge to be repaired. Meanwhile, I appeal to parents to accompany their children as they cross the river to avoid risks,” added chief.

Last week, two cows were killed by lightning in the same village and this has caused worries among residents.
