Nyota ward MCA Bernard Tesot has called on the government to outlaw livestock movements at night to curb cattle theft in the area.
The MCA said rampant cattle theft in Kuresoi North, Kuresoi South and Molo has forced farmers to share their houses with livestock.
He said cattle theft had raised tension in the area following the burning of a lorry ferrying 15 cows which had allegedly been stolen on Sunday night.
“We tether cows in our bedrooms for fear that they will be driven away at night. This should not happen in an area with police officers whose mandate is to ensure security for all residents,” the MCA said.
He said police should made public the owner of the torched vehicle.
"We demand that police must reveal the owner of the lorry that was torched by irate residents so that s/he can face justice and ease tension in this area," he said.
The driver of the lorry and those who were on bound managed to escape after angry residents intercepted the lorry, offloaded the stolen cows before setting the lorry ablaze.
Paul Korir, a resident, said locals were spending sleepless nights following increased cases of cattle theft in various villages in the area.
The residents now want Nakuru county commissioner Joshua Nkanatha to hold a public baraza in the area and address security concerns.
