Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria is proposing a law that will give citizens permission to defend themselves in times of political violence.
In a letter the lawmaker wrote to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Tuesday, Kuria mentioned his intention to table to Parliament his ‘Stand Your Ground Bill’ when sittings resume in 2017.
“The bill will supplement existing national measures that entitle every person has access to freedom and security,” said Kuria.
According to Kuria, the legislation should be made to help protect life and property in times of unrest.
“The principle of giving civilians a legal framework within which they can engage and combat crime first deters crime and reduces unnecessary loss of life and wanton destruction of property,” he said.
