The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that the commission is set to crack down on certain outspoken politicians and bar them from contesting for any political position come 2017.
Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria and Machakos senator, Johnston Muthama may not be allowed in the race for any seat due to their incessant propagation of hate speech that has been hitting the headlines from time to time.
The IEBC CEO, Ezra Chiloba on Wednesday stated clearly that the electoral body in conjunction with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) was working together on a common goal of eradicating hate speech mongers and making sure that they are not allowed to hold any positional posts in the government.
Kuria has been in court on several occasions being prosecuted for hate speech and incitements to the public on almost every occasion.
The recent incitement speech was when he called for Cord leader, Raila Odinga’s assassination.
Muthama, on the other hand, appeared before the NCIC recently on Wednesday where he was grilled yet again for another hate speech remark that he had uttered during the homecoming rally for Busia Women Representative, Florence Mutua who was among the eight lawmakers recently charged with hate speech.
If the IEBC were to make good its threat, then it follows that the two, Kuria and Muthama will be the first individuals to be affected.
