Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has criticised Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s call to disband the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) before the next general election.
Raila has vowed to withdraw from vying for the presidency in 2017 if the commission is not disbanded on grounds of incapacity and inability to govern elections.
Speaking on Sunday in Gatundu Sub County, Kuria assured that Raila’s move will not in any way affect politics or smooth running of the elections.
“Raila should know that Kenya’s politics is not dependent on him and he should not take his move as a threat to the government to coerce it into disbanding IEBC. It is Kenyans who vote for leaders, not the IEBC,” Kuria said.
He also called on the opposition to decrease criticism of the government and instead focus on the good things that Jubilee government has done.
“Does it mean that for more than two years, Cord has never noticed any positive change Jubilee government has done? They should focus on what the government is doing for the people and stop inciting the public”, he added.
In addition, he urged Raila to take his move as voluntary to either run for president in 2017 or decline it without dragging the IEBC or any other commission into politics.
