Plans by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria to establish Mama Ngina University are on top gear.
Speaking on Thursday at Kimunyu shopping centre, Kuria said Mutomo and Ruburi primary school will be demolished to pave away for the construction of the university, to be named after the university's mother.
“We expect this institution of higher learning to shape the destiny of Gatundu South residents by providing practical skills to students and providing avenues for investments by potential investors,” said Kuria.
The university will start off as constituent college of Moi University.
He urged the residents to support the move as it would enable the youth to access higher education.
“The university will adopt and nurture youth-based cottage industries for our young people,” said Kuria.
Kuria also said that Kiganjo and Nge'nda polytechnic would be elevated to a campus status.
“The elevation of these two polytechnics will equip our youth with necessary market-oriented skills to enable them to be self-reliant,” noted Kuria.
The lawmaker further urged the county government to pump more resources in the education sector to ensure more youth access education.
