Applicants for the chief justice position essentially have an extra day to submit their documents.
In a press release by the commission, the applicants would be disadvantaged by the one day shortened period falling on a public holiday on Thursday.
However, the extension does not apply to the posts of Deputy Chief Justice and Judge of the Supreme Court whose deadline is Wednesday, July 6, 2016
This even as Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria raised concerns over the number of candidates who applied for the position. Only a single candidate applied for the post by the deadline.
Kuria says the commission has raised the bar too high and this has Discouraged interested persons.
The legislator said it was suspicious of JSC to hurry the process with only one applicant having applied.
Only activist Makau Mutua has applied for the position.
He now wants the post re-advertised.
