Speaking when he opened a new dormitory at Gitare Secondary School on Wednesday, Kuria said that some projects initiated by the county government have not been completed.

The MP said that completing the projects on time will enable residents to benefit from various services.

“The Kiambu government must finalise all the development projects it has started before we go to the next general elections,” said Kuria.

The Gatundu South MP said that the county has a responsibility to ensure citizens have access to services.

He said that devolution was meant to bring services to the people adding that the county government should ensure that people benefit from the resources provide by the national government.

Meanwhile, Kuria said that the ‘Punda Amechoka’ campaign signature collection is almost hitting the one million mark.

The MP stated that the signature collection is still ongoing across the country.

The MP denied claims that the campaign has been abandoned adding that they will soon present their signatures to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“We are on course and we will soon present our one million plus signatures to IEBC for them to initiate the referendum process,” said the lawmaker.

Kuria added that signatures were being collected in every constituency urging Kenyans to sign up for the initiative.

The campaign seeks to have the number of governors, senators, women representatives, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) reduced.

Kuria said there was over representation and duplication among leaders, a move he said has lead to bloated wage bill. The MP seeks to have the number of MPs reduced from 349 to 300 and number of governors and senators from 47 to 16

Kuria also wants Women Representative seats and Ward Representative seats to be scrapped away.

The MP maintained that the initiative is different from a similar campaign dubbed OKOA Kenya being spearheaded by the opposition.
