The lectures have been on strike demanding for negotiations and implementation of the 2017-2021 collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Speaking to the press in Eldoret town after leading a protest on Thursday, Moi University chapter Kenya Universty Staff Union (KUSU) treasury Andrew Choge asked relevant institutions to move with speed and ensure the strike is brought to an end by meeting their demands.

Choge lamented that lectures have been mistreated for a long time and will not remain silent anymore.

"The ministry of Education, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and other stakeholders involved in this matter have no other option but to give into our demands," said Mr. Choge.

"As long as we don't have a counter CBA tabled, negotiated, registered and implemented, we will remain to be out of our workstations," he added.

The lectures and non-academic staff said they are not happy when students are out of class but insisted that they also had a right to push for their welfare.

"We are not happy ourselves when we are not working because we know there are students who need our services and parents have also paid fees but then we cannot work on empty stomachs," Choge said.

Learning in all public universities across the country has been paralyzed for the past three weeks since the strike begun.
